Recently set up a 90 gallon drilled with a durso, first drilled tank. I know there's a learning curve on sps but am willing to give it a try, sucessfully kept some of the more forgiving sps but not many other types. So far the 90 has a tunze wavebox, and one hydor in the opposite end, will a gyre 150 and wavebox be enough for sps ? lighting is a 36" 6 bulb ATI, also have 2 150 halides or 2 AI vegas that can supplement.. over sized skimmer rated for 250 gallons i believe and that's really it. what else do i need ? is the lighting and flow sufficient ?

stable water parameters and a mature tank. the gyre 150 moves massive amounts of water that alone would be fine . All your lighting options would be fine also. I'm not a fan of led only for sps, but many tanks on here with thriving sps colonies lit by led only.

I used 50% water from a mature tank of 3 years +, after the initial cycle how long after would I be ok to introduce my colonies from a previous tank ?

Would the gyre counteract the wavebox?

Is the 36" Ati going to be enough for a 48" tank (coral growth wise) ? There's no shadowing and definitely going to add LED supplements.

Never used a wavebox ,so that I don't know. If you have the equipment already set it all up and see if you like the flow. Most people who have the gyre say it replaces all other powerheads . I have a 150 gyre on a 75 and it's a beast. That's all I have for flow. With correct placement of your corals a 36 inch is fine , it will give you options for lower light corals on the sides. What rock did you use for the 90. If you used mature rock I'd say you can transfer your live stock with no worries. I've done many tank upgrades and transferred everything right away with zero issues.

Do you run an sps dominant tank ?

The rock is 90% established live rock and maybe 3 pieces dry that's been in a tank for a few months.

Sps dominant, not intentionally, but seem to be headed in that direction! Mixed reef for me . I enjoy the colorful sticks, but I like movement too. 90% established rock .rock that's been going for three months switch your live stock over what are you waiting for?!!!! When I moved I got a new tank, had my rock in a garbage bin in water and power head , had coral in a plastic storage bin with a light over it for over a week. Set up my new tank . new sand, filled half way with new water /made sure everything matched old water. placed rock in tank, turned everything on , placed corals in tank . No issues, no losses.

Lol yeah I guess that'll be tomorrows plan, my wife has been dying to see everything switched over, do you have some pictures of your set up ? And can you tell me about your equipment for it.
