Hi all I have been thinking a lot lately, I got out of the hobby 10 years ago drained 7 tanks and just quit when my wife passed away. I bought a 90 gallon tank it has never had water in it. I was thinking of removing the over flow box and plugging the bottom hole and drilling the back for an over flow what do you guys think

hi.
Great to hear your thinking of rejoining the hobby, you will find alot has improved in the last decade. choice, equipment, corals etc...
out of intrest what is your thinking behind switching a pre drilled tank into an overflow? what are your concerns/aversion to a bottom drain? i have an overflow tank because for me it was the easiest way to make it and im cheap ; ) if and when i decide to buy i would go for a base driled tank just for the ease of use and slimline clean look.

Why not? With all the changes and updates it will definitely be a new challenge and learning experience.

Well first thing is I have looked at the new overflow boxes available, they take up a lot less space than this large one in this tank. The other think I worry about with the tank the way it is, power outage and flooding. I guess they really are about the same. and I will have enogh of a sump to hole the water from this one I think just got to decide where to put it lol

I like the look of the overflow box more than the wall style overflow simply because it occupies less space in the tank, especially some of the newer low profile boxes that Reef Synergy and Eshopps have out now!
