Let's do an update! Busy getting prepped for winter so mostly letting the tank settle in after the move. Keeping up on weekly water changes ~15% though. Also promised I would do some testing, but....

The new location gets some morning light for a few hours now that the leaves are down, I think I'm digging it for more growth, and the White Tail is an algae machine anyway. Dirty is purdy.

Bigger corals are generally fine, smaller not thrilled yet. Goni is the only larger coral complaining

Yellow Watchman Goby was MIA for 3 weeks, thought she was a goner!

..pistol shrimp hasn't helped the goni however

But he is clicking like a beast and getting sprayed with brine shrimp regularly. Dude is LOUD.

We did lose Chuck Norris, the most hardcore Firefish you've seen or heard about. Jumped 10/5 #EggCrateTop

Picked up a 35 gal Norwesco tank in Anchorage to store our RO in the "fish" (laundry) room, stand build & install coming shortly!

Tank has been wanting to check in as well, and absolutely digs the new aquarium location. Seen here with his happy face.

My 34 reef gets some sunlight in the morning. The corals seem to love it.

Well, not a great weekend on the reef here - trying to figure out what is going on..

Yesterday, found our new white tail DOA in the AM. She was been with us for 5 weeks and eating up to the night prior.

Today, found our royal gramma DOA in the AM. She was with us for 16 months didn't show any signs of issues that I could tell.

All other inhabitants seem fine, swimming, eating, no obvious signs of stress, markings etc. 2 clowns, 3 PJ cardinals, melanurus wrasse, lawnmower blenny, yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp. Snails are actively laying eggs on the glass.

Ran some testing and currently prepping for a 10 gal, ~25% water change. RS is from the Red Sea kit, H for Hanna testers.

Nitrates are high, phos are super high, dKh is up from its typical 8.5-9 to 9.9. I only ran these once, will do again 24/48 after the WC.

Stress from the white tail addition in here?

Elevated nitrates for some time causing issues due to heavy feeding?

I've been changing 5 gal, ~12% weekly..

Also checked SG, 1.025. TDS in the RO is 0-1 ppm (measured my tap as a control at 211 ppm), etc..

Thanks all. 25% WC done, skimmer cleaned, feeding timer reduced, etc etc, we'll monitor from here...

The tank seemed fine yesterday, no further issues and corals are a little happier with the 25% WC to lower nitrates. Trying to run some testing later today..

Have to attribute to luck of the draw with the white tail, maybe stress, I'm assuming that was the case for the Royal Gramma.

No more 'bigger' fish in this 4' tank. We'll be letting things settle back down and eventually replacing the gramma, and maybe Firefish, but not sure on that as they fit through the current egg crate top pretty easily.. But they are super cool little guys..

It possible your gramma was bullied to death. I had made a comment about its tail awhile ago and in that photo he looks mauled. Of course that could have been CUC, but the previous photo, makes me wonder. and I think that was before the White tail.. my money is on those clowns if it is agression.

I think the garammas are pretty aggressive.

Ours had showed a little flashing (with the big mouth) toward the wrasse on occasion (not often), but overall she didn't seem to generate much stress from what I could tell. I have heard about their potential aggression however..

Oh I did check the gramma tail situation after your original note on that, I don't think I posted but that was just the angle and her tail was fully intact/could not find any markings on closer inspection..

With the white tail introduction, the gramma was displaced out of one of her main nooks - she took up to a different place on the far right side, then a place lower closer to pistol shrimp and goby's current hideout. I did not see any aggression with the white tail and/or gramma, but my vibe was she may have been stressed.. The same day we found the white tail DOA in the AM, I could see her hiding (alive) but did not come out all day... Next day, toast

Our clowns seem super chill though . We'll see how they age, we've had them in since May 2022 (18 months..) thus far..
