New to the game. Hello everybody. Acquiring an established tank that I am going to have to move about 4 hours away. 90 gallon setup with live rock and deep sand bed. Only 1 fish, a little foxface. Bunch of questions on the move.
1. What is best way to transport rock and sand. Was thinking cooler with a bubbler to keep the rock in good shape. Is the rock going to maintain its liveliness if done this way?

2. do I need to keep the sand or simply replace?

3. How much of the water should I keep? I can keep the fish in a QT if need be to re establing the rock and water. Or, should I just change out about 1/3 or so of the water?

4. Should I wire a dedicated GFCI for the setup? I can do all of that myself.

5. How many questions have I failed to ask in regards to this transport.

Here in central TX the temp are averaging about 100. Thinking on making a really early or a late start to have cooler overall conditions.

Ultimate goal is to get a much larger tank to put in living room wall. The wife said NO, so I was thinking maybe I could slide this by un noticed. I'm sure wherever I put it will end up being my bedroom for a little while anyway.

Thanks for any help.

1: A big tub with a batter operated air pump, or if you have a power inverter for your car that you can plug a powerhead in.
2: New sand, when you stir up the old sand it releases alot of trapped detritus and other nastiness that you don't want when you reset the tank up
3: Try to keep as much water as possible, ultimately you won't be able to keep it all, but as much as you can
4: ABSOLUTELY! @Brew12 would agree ;)
Round up as much help as you can, this stuff can get heavy! If you have the ability to put the fish into a quarantine I would recommend it, that way if there is any issues with the tank after its been set back up, you don't risk any of your fish :)
Others will chime in with more info hopefully, but welcome to the forum and thanks for introducing yourself :)

Thanks. Any particular way I should clean coolers or trash cans to eliminate or minimize contaminates? Same for QT tank that has been in garage for a while?

Scrub with vinegar and rinse out with ro/di water.
