90g tank stock list?

Hello everyone. I am making the dive into saltwater and want to plan a stock list before I commit to a tank. Currently I am looking to buy a 90g tank w a sump. It is a rectangle tank not a long. I would like very easy, hardy corals.... Nothing crazy.

Fire angel
2 clowns
2 cardinals
Midas blenny
Reef safe wrasse ..... Harlequin?
Kole tang
Maybe yellow tang

I have had freshwater all my life, so I have experience with being slow and methodical with this process but with this stock list what size do you suggest?

harlequin may need a little more space then a 90....other than that everything else should be ok..

Ok what if I skipped a for the two tangs I put a small powder and kole?

And instead of harlequin I did a six line wrasse or no wrasse at all

I had a powder blue in a 125, that was far too small, I think the smallest I would put one in, is a 210 with a ton of flow.

Wow he was 3" and still too small for a 125? I know they get huge, but it seems like you would have some time in a 125. Ok then guess that's out

Yea, he paced along the glass, got him tiny thinking that I would have time for him in there until I got a bigger tank, he was not pleasant with anybody else. It is my second or third favorite fish in the hobby, but until I can get a 210 or larger when I leave Texas, I am gonna pass on another one.

When you say rectangular tank, not long, do you mean a cube? Like a 30"x30"x24" (93 gal)? Either way, the only Tangs I would recommend would be a single smaller member of the Zebrasoma genus (like the Kole Tang you mentioned). Otherwise, keep in mind Flame Angels are not reef safe. Some do minimal nipping of corals, while others will outright destroy them. Some like SPS, some LPS, some Zoas, some everything!

I think your list looks good. Have you looked at any of the designer clowns? I think their prices have come down somewhat. I really like the wyoming whites. Personally, I'm not a cardinal fan - I just think there are so many other beautifully colored fish. Check out various wrasses - there really are some beautiful ones out there and they are very active and swim throughout the tank. I love my flamehawk - it has a lot of personality and is beautiful red color - perches throughout the tank (you should have a cover for wrasses because they tend to be jumpers). You may also want to look at various dwarf angels as well. The potter's angel has great coloration. I have read some threads that people sometimes have trouble keeping the flame angels long-term - not a clear explanation as to why. I don't believe any fish on your list is a danger to inverts.

I don't believe this list will max you out but that's my opinion and I tend to lean toward higher stocking than many.

Thanks a lot that is a big help. I was worried about multiple angels bc I heard they are species aggressive, I also heard this about wrasses? How aggressive will a wrasse be towards my other fish or clean up crew....

Haven't had experience with wrasses but I know most are aggressive. And the bigger they get the more aggressive of course. Just my .02

Hardwicke wrasses can be aggressive and nip coral. Any of the Thalassoma wrasses are bound to be trouble. I don't know about the others. Maybe the banana could be ok?
That list in post #14 looks good

they won't eat your CUC either.

All of those wrasse will get mean and be devastating to you cuc. There are some bright red cardinals and some with yellow lines. They are rarer but do offer color and night activity.

All of these are Thalasomma wrasses and they get quite mean and will destroy tour CUC. A more reef safe and community compatable group of wrasses would be from the Genus Halichoeres as many of these do just fine with CUC, when young, good choices included h. chrysus, biocellatus, and iridis, and Halichoeres also help control coral pests.

If you dont need coral pest control consider Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus wrasses, as these are colorful, peaceful and readily available.
