hey guys I do a ton of ready all day about questing I have bits it’s aleays nice to ask specific to your system. I just had a couple questions. First is about lighting; I have 6 t5’s but only run 4. I also have no clues when they were changed last. Should I change them and if so should I be running all six? And what are the best combinations for Coral growth? Or should I switch to led’s? I also wanted to ge thoughts on adding a refugium to my sump. I have a decent size middle chamber with nothing in it. Just looking for thoughts on that. I have more questing but I’ll ask them as we go. Thanks

If you decided to go with LEDS you would be able to play with the color settings. (Which I find fun to play around with). The led lights would be a nice clean look to your tank rather than a big bulky fixture. I have had T5 lights in the past and I had some good growth with LED lights and some good growth with T5. When i had my T5 light fixture I always replace my bulbs every 6 months regardless what they were looking like. The reason I switched to LEDs is because they were cheaper to run and was a nice clean look with the aquarium and I felt like I had the same growth results as T5

If I remember correctly I had whites blues and purple bulbs in my light fixture. Mine was also a six bulb fixture and I ran all six. If this helps you at all.

Yes that helps I just wanted to make sure I don’t use to much light. I do have two new anemones in my tank.

How big is the fixture/tank? You can't go wrong with T5 or led lighting. Depending on what look you like or if you'd rather be able to customize the lighting, shimmer or no shimmer, ect. If the 6 bulb fixture is meant to cover your tank I'd run all 6 but depending on corals you have or what you want to keep it might not be "necessary". For bulb combos it's personal preference but 4 blue+, 2 coral+ would look nice. If your unsure about how old the bulbs are then I wouldn't change them all at once.

I did read online earlier changing them all at once could shock the corals being they would be a lot more intense. I have a 92gallon corner. Water depth probably around 30” I have a 4 bulb fixture hanging in the middle then two additional single bulb fixtures down each long side.

Do you think it would be a good idea to run the 4 t5’s and then a single kessil pointing from the front angled at the rocks? Or should I just stick with the 6 t5’s?

A kessil will look amazing, it will give the tank some nice movement with the shimmer it produces. If we go led it's most likely gonna be a kessil and T5 hybrid since we like the look of halides. I think the kessil is a great idea. And you can still run 6 T5's too. That's a heck of an upgrade from a biocube, congrats my friend.

Is there a certain kessil you would recommend with the t5’s combo you suggested?

I would for sure combo it up since you have t5s on the sides. As for the LED choice it depends in your budget and what coral you want. Keep in mind you have a deeper tank and an odd shape for coverage purposes (you might get shadowing or weak par in the top back side if you have a single source of light).

I have attached a crude drawing of my light setup in my canopy. I currently only run the 4 t5’s in the middle. I also put a circle where I was thinking of adding the kessil.

Also does anyone know if these are bad? I just noticed them both pop up. Thanks

Yes. They appear to be an Aptasia Anemone. Their are many threads on how to remove them. I️ like the tank you have their. Very curious on how wide of an opening you have on top. I️ have the 54 corner and with only having 30” it make it a little difficult

Cant I just grab them and pull them out? The flat sides are 34” and from corner to corner across the from it 4’

NOOOO or the aiptasia will spread like wildfire:)

First one is aptaisia, second one looks like palythoa. Remove the rock then remove the aptaisia in a separate bucket of water. Make sure you get it all, a little tissue left behind will sprout another.

Well the one is just on a tiny fragment of rock on the sand bed. The green one is on a rock.
