Hi Folks:
I was looking at the "Cube" tank page.
One person said most of the 93 cubes by Marineland are defective.
Is this just one persons opinion or is there a real problem with them?
It could be a long convoluted story but my situation boils down to this:
Bought a house 20 years ago that could house my wife and I, along with her mother and her husband.
Her mother passed away, and house was immediately too big for us.
I had a 200 gallon with a 75 gallon sump/fuge.
When downsizing house, tank had to downsize also.
Bought a new construction home that took 8 months to build. In that build time I bought a Marineland 93 rimless cube, built a stand, and started buying equipment to support it.
Had problems with the hardwood floors cupping in the new house so tank set up was on hold.
Guess what, more equipment was purchased while floor problems were solved.
It is finally time to set up the tank, now I may not be safe setting up this tank if known manufactures issues exist. Do they?
I am now up to almost a year since buying a tank that has never been wet, Do I have an issue with this tank or should I go ahead with setup?
Looking for honest input, have had enough problems with the hardwood, don't need a tank flood to start them all over again (at my cost).
Please be honest, after what I have gone through in the last year I need to know real answers .
Thanks for any input provided:
Rick

Rick what is the actual question? Are you worried that the tank is not safe to use because it sat dry for a year, or are you just worried about marineland tanks in general?

Marineland 93 gallon rimless cubes in general.
My 60 gallon marine land and the replacement were just junk air bubbles in seam I demanded my money back and bought a Red Sea. But yes their junk

Edit : I see you built a stand for the tank marine land won't honor any warranties unless it's on their stand

I have several friends with that tank and theirs don't leak or anything :). I think the main issues are with the sloppy silicone work. Yes they get it all over, but I have seen and read about some with lots of air bubble in the seams. I would check this out before using it, and if you see this flaw take pics and send to marineland for replacement. As long as the seams are good, I don't think they use inferior silicon or something. Make sure it's perfectly level and you should be fine.

Maybe you should just touch up on any of the areas on the silicon that look sloppy with more silicon and fill it with freshwater and let it sit for a few days to make sure their are no leaks

This would prove short term viability, but not long term reliability. The stress of moving water in the tank can cause those voids to slowly grow. You don't want the tank to split 5 years after setting it up. If you see any voids, especially near the base of the tank, I wouldn't use it. For those that may wonder why voids at the base of the tank might be worse than those at the top, the pressure is greater at depth. Hence greater stress at the base of the tank. The 93 gallon cube is a deep tank too.

Thanks:
I presently have nothing better to do than look at an empty tank, so I will check the seams.

Bought the tank with their stand. I just knew it would not be big enough to hold all my equipment so I built my own stand, but I can prove to Marineland I bought their entire system (tank, top, stand).

That's good I'd hate for you to have a problem like I did with mine and not get any help from the guarantee

My SIL had the 60 gallon cube from marineland, within 6 months of buying it the bottom back seam went. She ended up getting it replaced with the 93 cube from marineland because they were out of the undrilled 60 I believe. I have the 45 marineland cube and I do notice some bubbles in the seams which often worry me:/ they do not seem like quality built tanks from my family's experience. If you are really worried about it then I would have a custom tank built with the same dimensions so you can use the stand. Having a tank you can trust seems like it is worth the extra money when you just built a new house and already had issues with the floors, you probably don't want to have to replace them after all that work haha:)
