Can someone please post a watermelon chalice ID thread. Seems like there are more and more variations popping up by the day. And I can't seem to tell one from the other, they all look the same.

Well the thing with WM,is some are exactly the same IMO.People will name them, and sell them for the normal WM price,$75-$300 an eye.

Alot of WM with have very similer colors, like the Red and Pink Watermelon. At first Glance they are the same to an un trained eye,but look twice and see the diffirence? The Red had a grey blue hew to the red top color, where as the pink has a simple all Pink coloration.

Same thing with all the Alien Eyes. There are literally how many purple with green rim and eyes,oh I would say more than 50...lol,there Grape Ape,Alien Eye,Watermelon Alien Eye,Tubbs Alien Eye.etc.

It never ends. Most of the Chalices are the same IMO,just the people who get ahold of them in the first place.

Yea, most wm's are the same, not all, but if a chalice has a bright colored base and a green rim, BAM! its a wm, if it has a dark blue, purple, or gray body, with a green rim it usually is an alien eye

Not all have id's, because if 1 detail is differant it is a differant wm

I might work on a thread later, i only have 2 wm's but this could be an interesting thread

It would be,Ill post one later mabey,so where it goes, but most watermleons are the same!

I personally disagree that most are the same. I have many different ones and if you see one in a pic, it may look like any other but in the same tank or to the collector who knows, they are different. You can have 10 pink watermelons that might look the same if you see individual pics of them but side by side you can see what makes them differ. It may be just the brightness of the pink or how much blue the base has or how bright the eyes are but there are differences.
For example

Tyree Red
Fragfarmer Red
Bazooka Joe
Tyree Pink
Monster Mash

All are pink/red watermelons and all are different and side by side have obvious differences.

Yes,Im talking about untrained eyes,Im very familier with LE chalices and WM chalices.

I don't know what you mean then? The differences in watermelons are such that if the untrained eye wants to learn what they are then the only way to do it is to become trained. Look at the chalice show off thread and pay attention to things like brightness, patern, color combination, eye color etc.
These are the things that set the watermelons apart and make them differ from each other.
I agree that many of them do look the same or very close but there are small details that make them differ. They are not all the same chalices as is being suggested.

When i said the same i was saying they most all are red or pink, but once you look at them closely/side by side, yes they are differant, my mistake

I was not tryign to suggest they are the exact same chalices, i was saying alot them look the same at 1st then as you look at em you notice they have differant tints, shades, patterns, markings, eye colros, etc.

I think WM chalices look very similer, now Im not going to say that Red Watermelon and SC Pink Flame look the same, but you look at a few of the other chalices out there and tell me they dont have alot of similatiries to them.Just because somthing is briter dosent mean it is a diffirent chalice by all means, now if it has been in captivity for years, then yes its diffirent because it holds its color. But most chalices are imported, colored up for a few months, named and sold out as somthing new,for it to be new it has to be cool and exotic. Not just any old same ol same ol watermelon with a pink base green rim and green eyes.

Now,yes I am very familier with all those chalices listed, and by far, they do look diffirent, but tell me,how silimer are they in th end. They all grow at diffirnet rates, they may have slightly diffirent colors, but as an over all image, they have very similer features. Now compare Sexy Coral Pink Flame to Bazooka Joe.They are diffirent, but compare Bazooka Joe and a normal watermelon and tell me how diffirnet they are.

I dont want to sound rude, but I have very stopng opinions, and they arent facts, but IMO most of the chalices of today are very similer and have veryu similer features that only a true reef keeper that understand coral will understand what makes it unique and new.

Thanks guys.
