Late last night I saw a lot of air coming into my 180. It meant that the water in the sump was low. Strange... I filled the ATO reservoir earlier in the afternoon.

I opened the door of my stand and saw that the stand was flooded and the water was about to flow out of my stand. Thanks to the dike I created with the pond liner that Harry gave me years ago, the water was contained within the dike.

I started checking everything in panic and found that the outflow tube of my calcium reactor was pulled out of my sump. My cat must have pulled it out when I had the door open to fill the ATO reservoir. I saw the cat at that time, shooed him away from the stand, and closed the door. It was very lucky that I forgot to turn the ATO back on. Otherwise, the ATO would have kept filling the water into the sump and I would not have seen the air in the display tank until the morning. Probably the room would have been flooded in the morning and the salinity would have been low as well.

I had a low salinity problem 8 years ago when my calcium reactor pump sprung a sudden leak (but ATO kept going.) I did not lose any fish or corals, but my SPS's gone pale/brown for a few weeks on me.

I suppose it's about time that I invested in an aquarium controller...

Whew! That was a close call! Glad you didn't have a disaster.

Thank you, Connie.

It took me a bit of time to determine what was causing the flood. Then, I had to clean up the mess. Not something I like to start late at night, but I am glad that I found it.

That would have been a mess. Glad you caught it. If you need help/advice on an Apex, let me know. Also, if you just want to start working on a smart home configuration, you can put in a simple controller and leak detectors like I have done at the lake.

Pond liner is a great idea! Happy you caught it before it was an even bigger mess. Maybe the kitty was sabotaging the system??

Thank you, guys. The tank is back to normal. I am really glad that I caught it early.
I've debated about installing a controller for awhile. I may do something finally, or I will *****-trap the stand to scare off my kitties.
