Scott, I'm not sure what that is, but it doesn't look like a chiton to me either and I've seen lots of them when I go snorkeling.

Appears to have the Chiton skirt, but agree, don't see the dorsal plate segments. Is it hard or soft? Does it move...fast or slow? If hard, could the dorsal plates be covered with algae?

I tried plucking it out and it fell into a crevice in the rock. It didn’t stick hard like a chiton would. Mystery on hold.

No algae on it. And it hasn’t moved in 2 hours. Not even a mm. I believe chitons are mostly night dwellers. I’m in Hong Kong and my lights still have an hour and a half left.

I honestly don’t think so but sounds plausible because I found an asternia yesterday, believe it or not.
