Hello! Im a very big thinker and was wondering if I could get some expert advice on a very distant project (I mean YEARS distant maybe). I'd like to install a tank to imitate a sort of Mediterranean feel, specifically a lot of pristine white sand and the occasional bare live rock. I've begun research in the requirements for types of low(ish) maintenance stingray's and epaulette sharks, and have always LOVED butterflies and large angels. I know this is a combination that takes only the most experienced aquarist.....
My experience with these types of animals are minimal, I had a butterfly in a reef tank before, until it ate my really expensive scoly after that, it was a permanently damaged relationship, so I had to re-home him before he got to other corals. I now have a 240 gallon reef tank with about 15 strong growing frags/colonies. Since I am no expert, I am looking one to let me know if this is possible/probable and what to focus on before I can get to the point of building with positivity.
Anyways, if this is a decent slow building possibility, I was looking into a 96x24x31
300 gallon tank with an exterior sump room. But I'd also like to know if a 96x18x31 240 gallon would be suitable... Less floor space for Ray's but it would definitely fit a little better. Another possibility is a 96x24x25 240 gallon that's shallower but has the floor space. Does anyone have any experience mixing these fish/Ray's/one epaulette shark? I have done a lot of research and know that all three of the groups I mention are very fragile to fluctuating tank conditions, and rays give off TONS of waste, etc. Any advice would be great!
