I don't have a tank thread but just got a new camera + lens and have been dying to share some of my beauties. Keep in mind this is my first real camera and I'm still ignorant when it comes to the settings. It's going to take a while before I can take some real nice pictures but compared to my old camera, this new one is heaven sent.

These are some colonies I've been cooking for a little while. Can't wait till they color up further.

Keep in mind that I still don't know what I'm doing but hopefully as time goes on I'll get better. Hopefully this piece will develop a red rim.

I love the subtle colors on this one. Thankfully all three colonies have been doing well in my tank so far (knock on wood)

Here's a couple of new sweeties I added this morning. I haven't owned a flame angel in years and forgot how nice they looked. I took the picture because I thought the gramma was dying but he was just stressed from the shipping.

I'll add more pics tomorrow if my son lets me use the computer :)

Very nice! I blame those two fish and Mandarin Gobies for my foray into saltwater tanks.
See if your manual mentions setting the white balance manually. Mine was as easy as pushing a button and taking a picture of a piece of paper under tank lighting. Of course that goes out the window on my camera when it comes to royal blue LEDs...

Thanks. I'm still working out all the buttons, settings and reading the manual to try to understand the camera better. It will take a while :) I have a friend giving me pointers but I'd still have to learn the basics myself. I don't even know what white balance means but I have the weekend to read the book and play around with it. I use 2 bulbs (ati coral plus and ati blue plus) along with a blue strip led. To take top downs I have to tilt the hood on two legs and that doesn't help when taking pictures. Taking them through the glass doesn't look as good. Anyway, here's a few more I've taken in the last couple of days. Give me at least a week or two and I should have the hang of things :)

For the life of me I haven't been able to take a decent picture of one of my favorite pieces, the JF lepto. It is such a bright and beautiful piece and the pattern make it very unique. I've seen some great pictures before of it and always thought to myself, no way does that piece look so good but trust me, it does. Of course once I get better I'll update the thread again with better pics.

When I first got the JF Banana Banshee I thought to myself, blah, it's nothing special but after a couple of months of growing it out it turned out to become one of my favorites. I love the unique sheen on the rim and the body and eyes look great. Sucks that I have to keep cutting my pieces to support my reefing habit but one day I hope to get to a point that I can just let stuff grow and appreciate how nice the colonies look.

It is a shame that I have to cut this piece for the growout guys soon. The Tangerine Dreams is part of my growout and once it grows into a small colony it looks amazing. The body of this one took on 2 different shades of coloration. A very special piece and I'm so glad it thrived during our growout.

I finally got the Crazy Fox that I'm growing out with my friend John (Cryptics) but that one is still too small to take a decent picture of but this one is in our Rok city growout and has grown very nicely. The good thing about the My Miami is that it has become more affordable and looks fantastic. Once it gets colony size, it makes a striking impression. Very bright and beautiful piece. This one will have to go under the knife soon and distributed among my growout also (Rok City) :(

IMG_0498.jpg

This last Jason fox/UC piece is still booger sized and being grown out between my friend Bill (Salty Dog) and myself. I'm guessing it's getting too much lighting right now and too small to develop a rim. In a couple of months it should look a lot different. This one is the JF/UC Pink bikini As you can see it packs a ton of color, even though it's smaller than my thumbnail.

Thanks! The next few are my absolute favorites, for now at least, lol. My top favorite pieces change every couple of weeks

Jawbreaker mushroom (still can't take a decent picture of it). Slowest grower I have and still small after several months. It's only popped one baby (smaller than a grain of rice). At times I'm almost afraid it will even survive. But besides it's slow growth rate, it looks fantastic. Very bright orange and red and now after so much time, it's starting to show green coloring.

Reef Oddessy's Blue Mandarin, Super sweet chalice. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this one. ANd a decent grower too.

IMG_9291.jpg

Cherry Corals, Cherry Sour chalice - It changes quick in different areas of the tank and growth seems to be a little slow for me, but I love it. My picture pales in comparison to the ones other members have taken.

IMG_0604.jpg

Last one before I take a nap. Been babysitting since early this morning. This one is from Ktar and named the Kratos chalice. It's a definite beauty. Very bright and unique.

I fear the day I see the Jack-O-Lantern Lepto...I have great self control when it's just pictures, but in person that's another story. Looking forward to more pics!

Beautiful pieces! If you will create a new entry in the database forums for them! ;)

Great start and thanks for sharing. Would you mind describing the difference between tangerine dreams and crazy fox? I have never seen either in person and from pics they both look like purple base, orange eyes and green rim.

Thanks!!

Sure thing Rev and thanks! Will get on putting a few in later tonight.

And thank you too Tabasco. I can't answer that question yet, the Crazy Fox I'm growing out is still fingernail size and only one eye

But I believe that they are different from the body and eye color. I always thought that the My miami and Tangerine dreams were alike but they are very different pieces. I think it's because they show their true colors when they make it to colony size. When they're frags it's a little harder to tell.

Oh, it took a lot for me to buy this piece. I'm mostly into chalices and favias and keep low lighting because of it but I'm so glad I pulled the trigger, it really is amazing. It's sitting and doing very well next to my other pieces on my frag rack. ALso a great eater. You should definitely grab a piece when you see one at a good price.

Thanks fab! I guess I meant the my Miami and not the crazy fox as you have a pic of that. The only difference I really see is the size of the eyes.

Thanks!

They are very different actually. Blue body, bright orange eyes on the my miami. Violet/indigo and light blue body with yellowish eyes on the tangerine dreams. Tangerine is a grows more slowly than the My miami but is also prettier imo. Here's a couple of more.

Rainbow Magic (Rok city growout) Most of these pieces are getting too much light right now. I have them up on frag racks so I can feed and care for them easier. I'm positive in lower light they would display better coloration and patterns but I don't want to sacrafice growth for it.

Thanks!

Got this one from Ktar (forgot the name). For the life of me I can't get it to color up no matter what I do. I've kept it in shade, put it into the light. very frustrating :( If anyone can help or has this piece, lmk. I would appreciate it.

Here's a couple of teeny weeny frags that pack a punch. Both are being grown out between me and my friends but hopefully they'll get bigger soon so I can take some proper pictures. Got both of them at a better price, hence they were smaller. As long as they're healthy and eating, I'm happy, and both currently are :)
