Hi, I was wondering about how reef safe the mimic filefish (Paraluteres prionurus)

And also the tank size for a one spot Foxface (Siganus unimaculatus) , and how reef safe they might be

Thanks

Yeah I don’t think I
It really depends on how many fish, dimensions, etc. You might be ok with a 75-gallon if you don't have a lot of other fish and you get a fairly small one.
You don’t think I can have one I would like to keep one for at its maximum size.

Maybe in the future if I ever get a bigger tank

Ok thanks, I have a 75 so guess I can’t get a foxface
The one spot is a smaller species and foxes aren't nearly as active as tangs so a 70 gallon will just about do it.

How fast they grow really depends on available food sources, etc. I got my one spot about a year ago when he was only about 1" in length, but he's a voracious eater and is now easily pushing 5".

Do you know at about what size they max out
I’ve seen about 8 inches, is so I think 75 is to small and they need 100-125 min

I don't know but I think its 7-8". If your worried don't get one. I find them to be very mild mannered and lazy. Also length is far more important than gallonage as Blaxsun said. A long is far bettered suited to large or active fish then a cube.
My big magnificent just sits by the algae clip waiting for more. It must be nearing 7" and fat.

Gorgeous! I have two automated feeders and our one spot foxface hangs out in the feeder rings constantly scraping any fresh algae off.

Around especially soft coral and coral with polyps, I trust a politician more than I trust these two !

I have a Magnificent Fox and they’re said to max out at 10” but mines max size and only 7” (maybe 6.5”). In captivity fish don’t really get to their max size , they get about 80% of their max size.

With a One Spot I’d expect 6-7” with 1-2 feedings a day obviously if you feed 6-7x a day you’ll have much faster growth and possibly a much larger Foxface. However I fed 1x a day (now 2x a day) and my Foxface in 4 years has doubled in size, I got him as a 2” juvenile and he’s now 6-7”. As they get to a certain size, their growth slows a lot I believe it’s once they get to 4”.
Here’s mine :)
