Just as the title says I have a couple questions for you guys

1. A buddy of mine gave me 2 500 watt heaters is that over kill for a 72 gallon bow front tank

2. Is there any way to control the gph flow of a eshopps overflow box with out a shut off valve

3. What size are the holes normally in a wet/dry filter drip plate

4. Should I top off my tank with fresh rodi water or saltwater

5. Is it possible for a new tank to cycle in 2 weeks

I think I can answer a few of your questions.

1) I think a 500 watt heater is way over kill. 150w to 200w is what I would recommend for a 72g.

4) You should be topping off with RODI water. The only time you want to top off with salt is if you're doing a water change or trying to raise your salinity.

5) It is possible if you use live rock, live sand and maybe some established tank water and feed the bacteria properly. It usually takes 3-4 weeks on average to cycle a tank the right way. I would take your time and do it right rather than rush.

This. And two 100w heaters would be even better for redundancy.

Also, wet/dry filters are not very popular anymore and there are better options now.
/ I modified my old wet/dry filter into a sump with fuge.

1. Yes, even one 500 watt heater is to much. 300 would probably be more ideal.

2. The only way to control flow through the overflow box is with a ball valve, or having an adjustable return pump

3. Unfortunately I have no idea.

4. You'll want to top off with RO/DI water, as water evaporates the water leaves, but the salt stays behind. If you top off with saltwater you'll raise your salinity

5. It depends on the system, some tanks can cycle in two weeks, its not unheard of, but it generally takes a month.
