I've got 3 acro frags in my tank that turned a tan color shortly after entering my tank. All are in areas of my tank where they should be receiving ample light. Based on BRS testing of my light setup and their placement they should all be in the 3-400 PAR range. I have several other corals in my tank that have great color and growth. The frags in question have encrusted very welland have good PE but have not grown upward much. WWC crazy house, JF shock tart and reef raft D-Day. The first two were purchased from WWC. The shock tart came beige with a light green hue. The D-Day came with little color. The frags have been in my tank about 9 months. Any suggestions?

Sg 1.026
Temp 78
Alk 8.5
Calc 420
PO4 .05

I keep my parameters pretty steady. The tank is lit with a Giesemann Spectra with two 250w Radiums driven at 300w each and 4x54w ATI Blue+. T5s 8 hours, halides 6 hours.

Acro's like to brown out when shocked from different tank parameters in which it came from. As long as they aren't bleaching they should be fine. One day they will color up again.

9 months is more then enough time to color up.

OP: What are your nitrates at?

Ive had at least one acro frag stay brown for almost a year until it one day decided to color up. But I agree 9 months is usually way more than enough time.

Okay, today's vital stats:

Alk: 8.5 dkh (Red Sea Pro)
Calc: 410 ppm (Red Sea Pro)
NO3: 0 ppm (Salifert)
PO4: .06 ppm (Hanna ULR)

The Shock Tart should be looking good under your lights - at least a dark purple... but it should have came in this way too... hmm.

How about some more info? Were the frags shipped? Did they come from an LED lit tank/system? I will not buy LED lit frags that need to be shipped since they take SO long to color up and grow for me... sometimes, a year.

If these are encrusting, then I would not sweat it too much. If I had to guess, they were stressed from the shipper/seller since they came in so pale to begin with. Do your other SPS look OK? Everybody has a few troublesome acros that just never work for them.

All 3 frags were shipped. I've got others from the same shipment that have grown really well and have great color. I guess I'll just wait it out and see what happens.
