OK so a friend of mine that clams in the bay found this critter and told me it was a sea cucumber so I had a 10 gallon tank that was cycled and nothing in it so I tossed them in there and he was doing fine even though it barely ever moves then last night all of a sudden his head came out and was his big and ripe like an apple. It was the weirdest thing I ever saw I took some pictures and a video but then this morning the part that came out was detached from the rest of it and the sea cucumber (if that’s what it is) looked exactly like it did when I first got it and it’s still very much alive
The piece that came off him (which I’m assuming was a head) has a odd looking bone like substance
Does anybody have any idea what this could be
It now looks exactly what it looked like when I got it
Counting on my R2R peeps

Where he was collected. Cold water species most likely dies in home reef aquarium because of different temps, I wouldn`t recommend to pick up animals from the beach to put in your tank.

Have 16 seahorses from colder water with no problems. I keep my tank at 71-72 half, never higher and have several fish also
And this thing is not dead(least not yet)

Not sure what you have, but if it's a cucumber, they puke out their insides when overly stressed or threatened. Their puked guts tend to poison the water.

I watched the video,, and like I said it’s an Alien,, such a weird but cool creature of salt water

The question is where did he get these corals. Were collected?
95 % of the coral I have came from a members tank and his tank is set to 76-78half degrees All I did was coral dip them and put them in my tank. I’ve also moved them around a lot as I got more coral/ plus figured out where they liked to be
I’m just lucky so far my tank is very young,, will be 4 months in 4 days

I’m interested and stumped. Though from the first look it looked like a cowrie, but the piece you found that came off looks like something I’ve seen in echiurians. What bay did this guy come out of in New Jersey?

There hundreds of species that the average hobbyists has no idea of what they are from the wild...

the average hobbyist only is familiar with the typical species of livestock put in fish tanks.

Additionally, a tank temp in the low 70’s in really no big deal and of course can be done, especially with easy and hardy beginner corals you have in your tank. Those are considered bullet proof and very hard to kill, lol
