A gazillion and one trochus snails

When I set up my RS 250 eleven months ago, I moved two large trochus snails from my previous tank. Just two. Not long afterwards I had a brood of 50 or so tiny trochus snails. I was pleased. Now, I'd estimate there are over 300 tiny ones, 20 or so mid sized, and all sizes in between, and they are taking over every nook and cranny of this tank.

It was set up with dry rock, dry and live sand, and left to cycle for most of the last year. I don't feed a lot and only have a few corals, four fish, and four RBTAs. I've had some issues with red slime algea/cyano and more recently GHA has been making an appearance. My small yellow tang doesn't seem interested in the GHA which I plan to manually remove at my next (long, long overdue) water change.

Could use some advice on getting rid of this overpopulation of snails. Manual removal / sale to a LFS is an option. Blow torch another (lol)

Are there others? Something that will grub on em?

This happened to me too. They just spawned again recently as well...
I sold a ton to my LFS. Every time I’d go there I’d put as many as I could easily grab in a Tupperware container and sell them for store credit basically. I didn’t pay for frozen food or 2part for 6 months lol.

The main issue was the super small ones got stuck in my skimmer pump and would grow and seize the pump. Thankfully that hasn’t happened in a few months.

Yes.... I've been concerned about them making their way into my skimmer (pretty well isolated Sicce pump / safe so far) and my main pump. Which brings up another question: Anyone have experience reviving a dead Jebao RW-8? I've replaced the controller which bought me another few months but this wave maker has stopped working again recently. I'll tear it down and see if there are snails in it this weekend but it's stopped cold before without any blockage.

May need to swap the snails for some store credit soon. Love the spawning, never seen anything like this, though.

Did you try soaking in 1:1 vinegar:RODI?

The first time it died, I did. I'll give it another whirl. When I replaced the controller, plugging in the DC jack created a spark and the pump didn't start. I decided to wait awhile. Unplugged it and plugged it back in (spark) and after a couple days, RW-8 was at full steam. Now, I get a spark

Very strange lol. Sounds risky lol, maybe get a new pump

Sage advice, new friend Agreed but with two kids in diapers, one brand new, I'm on a DIY budget these days. It's 'just' a little tiny spark.

Yeah, I've been looking at a Sicce Voyager 2 as a replacement. Couple dead Jabao's in my closet already.

Ah I hear ya. Well heck with store credit then! Sell those trochus on Craigslist for $1or 2 a pop. People will gladly pay that.
