I think my light's too high for my acan but too low for my particular goniopora. Maybe someone can verify or counter my thoughts. The nice fiery red acan (the Fiery Depths I got from Cherry Corals) is turning brownish-red, though it's taking food as well as I expect a coral could (I'm new to corals, though,) and my Nuclear Sunset Goniopora - also from CC - that was bright pink and orange is losing its fluorescence and turning dark red. My green-tentacle leptastrea seems unaffected, as does the pinwheel shroom (discosoma mushroom, I believe.)

They were kept under T5s before I got them, but they're under LEDs now. Maybe that's the issue? I'm considering ditching the LEDs and getting a T5 fixture. Not liking the idea of having to buy new bulbs every six months, though. ..

I wouldn't ditch the LEDs so quick. Aside from maybe a chemistry issue, different levels than where they came from, have you tried moving the acan to more or less light than its getting. Are you feeding them? Acans seem to like less light. More light and they lose colors. For the red ones at least. They seem to turn orange and lose stripes. Takes them a while to recover or come back to original colors if they ever do.

I have LED's as well. Maybe try moving around in the tank until you find a spot they like. That works for me. It seems like the spot corals like in my tank does not always go along with what is stated on the internet. Hope you find them a spot they like.
Have fun reefing!

I feed everything except the mushroom. I'll try moving the acan to the shade and see what happens; my tank is only a 20 high so that's the only considerable variation in lighting, and they're already basically on the substrate.

I hear you about the levels...which reminds me...I'm considering switching salt brands from IO to bio-sea marinemix...

The goni is in the only place I could find where it's willing to fully extend its polyps. I will attempt moving the acan to the shade.

Right now they are receiving a 5-hour photoperiod because I've been slooowly acclimating them to LEDs. Maybe that's too little for this goni?
