Hey Guys,

My name is Thomas I'm 29 years old. I own a webhosting/design company and im a father of 2. I have fish tanks my whole life but only one salt water tank. I'm fairly new to the hobby I just recently purchased a 46 gallon reef tank. I'm looking to use this tank to get back into the hobby I also have a 125 gallon tank I'm hoping to put together in the future. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Unfortunately I had purchased this off of Craig's list and the seller advertised $1000 in coral when I get there he told me he had turned the tank off a week prior to me purchasing the tank. (he didn't think it would harm anything) so there's not much to show there is nothing there except he equipment. Which is good and bad its good because it gives me the option to take the tank apart and clean it (which I've been doing for 3 days lol) and set the tank up correctly and most importantly learn about the system.

I do have a few questions about this particular filter setup it looks like a refugium setup however it looks like its missing a chamber the protein skimmer was also hanging in the middle instead of at the end as most of the sump I have researched had. It also only had one bag that hangs directly below that black tube. What's the best way to set this sum up right? Can I use Bio balls? or should I get mud and setup as a refugium.

It must be filter sock that is hanging below the bulkhead. Usually water drain down from filter sock and into the skimmer than into the return compartment.
