Hey everyone!

Have a 65 G that has been up and running about 4 months. I've been doing water changes every 2 weeks. Recently noticed what I gather is cyano in the sand last week. So I decided I'm gonna up my water changes to every 1 week.

Current water chemistry.
0 -- ammonia
PH 8.2
0 -- Nitrites
0 -- Nitrates
dKH -- 8.3
Temp -- 77.2 F

Any other suggestions?

How is it going?

Meh. Purchasing decent testjnf kits now, was using API before lol. Nitrates 25. Gonna service my canister filter more often. Do 20% water changes...turn lights on less (been having them on for 12 hours before). Gonna also buy a protein skimmer in the future. Im hoping its just the nutrients.

I see okay well it sounds like your tank is getting some nice attention, and upgrades. If the flow inside the tank is not the issue then I’m confident it will be nutrient related. Cyano comes from all sorts of issues. If cleaning the water does not work then maybe we need a more diverse bacteria/algae population present to outcompete. I’m in your same boat but my nutrients are low and my flow is high. So I’m trying to dose bacteria and blowing off/sucking up, the build up inside the display ever other day. I believe the battle can be a long one this way, but I’m striving for long term success. If a month or so goes by and I can’t rid it naturally then all add Chemiclean. Chemiclean has worked for me in the past after only 1 week of use.

Yeah. What does your tank look like. Luckily (right now) I only have a bit on the sand bed.
