Would you back an industry norm that made possible more exact / custom cable lengths?

It would be nice for a fitted placement of everything. But I remove stuff and add it to other tanks and change placement of things all the time. I buy and resell things also. I think the market for this would be for nice show piece aquariums where nothing is ever moved. Everyone has the headaches associated with cord management though. I know there are a variety of cable management devices out there. Some cords are much easier to lengthen/shorten than others depending on what's in them. It would be alot of measuring also.

Probably better to just pay someone experienced with electronics to shorten your cords for you... Even if I had a choice of cord length, I'd probably opt for the longest one in almost all situations so that if I needed the extra play at some point, I'd have it.
Just to re-iterate, the idea is to have a short cable coming from the device so you could purchase an extension cable of the exact length you want and need so that we can all avoid having overly long cables "just in case".

I'm with the "I'll take more now since I might use it later" crowd. But, I could see this as something possible in say lighting wires where the cable plugs in at the light/both ends, and you have an option of 4, 8, 12' cords, etc. Tougher part would be with things such as ATOs with 5 different cables.. Quicker to wrap the cables than to calculate all the different lengths you might need

But why would I want the extra expense of buying extension cables??

I'm not gonna say it again. lol :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
I think you're missing the point that almost everyone who responded said they wouldn't pay more for "specialized" cords. My last response was to your "clarification" of your point, which was unnecessary...

My post was kinda tongue-in-cheek if you can't tell. There's zero chance anyone in the industry will change anything. But the dozens and dozens of feet of unnecessary cable below the tank is a PITA.
If your a bit fearless then diy your cable lengths? Been doing that for years with no issues.
