A must have when owning an Apex...

Avast break out box, it has separate ground terminals for each switch instead of one shared ground.

I have a wxm , the interface has gotten much better so take complaints about it with a grain of salt. A friend of mine told me he would have given me his wxm when I told him I ordered one because he hated it, and used 1link. After I got mine set up and showed him he took down his 1link and plugged the wxm back in.

I agree the WAVs are nice (I have two) but by no means are they a necessity when owning an Apex. There are a ton of good options available for water movers :-)

The breakout box, WAV's and when the Trident comes out soon I will have that...

Leak detectors are a very affordable alert system. I also like the flow sensors. I run a UV sterilizer and an external skimmer both require certain flow rates and I can’t eyeball what 600 gph looks like. Also allows me to shut off the skimmer if flow =0 to save the skimmer pump should the return pump fail.
I too prefer WXM over reeflink for my mp60s but prefer reeflink to control my radions.

I use the one from Neptune. I never knew Avast made one until after I bought it. I've read about DIYing one, and it looked fairly simple. Will try the DIY one when I need more switches.
I make custom DIY 3d printed break out boxes if you are interested.

A note regarding the wxm, it does not control vectra, only radion and mp

Does it stay connected with you vortechs reliably. I have a reeflink and don’t use it because I’m always having connection issues. I’d love to add the wxm for feedmode alone

MANY HAVE MADE MENTION OF BREAKOUT BOXES. IT'S PERHAPS SOMETHING I HAVE OVERLOOKED. ANYONE HAVE DRAWINGS/PICS/DIAGRAMS TO SHOW TYPICAL HOOKUP/SETUP OF BREAKOUT BOXES FOR APEX??

Modules are all optional LOL. Beyond the basic components, that is. What’s necessary, IMO, is a way to ensure that the head unit never loses power. I get frequent, short power losses chez moi and the 2016 apex does not like them (had some module readdressing issues) so I use the dedicated power supply connected to a UPS. Maintains continuous power to the brain for the time it takes for mains to return or my standby to kick in.

There are a few DIY breakout box thread floating around. I made one years ago from a thread on RC, and it’s fine. Now I just buy the avast kit and solder it up myself.

So how many breakout boxes can you run? I only see one DIN connector, what if I wanted to add another?

I guess I have two. The WXM if you have Vortech wireless and the atk for the leak detection and optical eye addition for the ato reservoir

Yes, most of the add on modules have the capability to add switches. I have five break out boxes lol.

Breakout box.

I did a version that uses 3.5mm jacks and panel mount jack for less than $12.

You can buy a breakout box and wire "rain sensors" from amazon to it. For about $70, you could have more sensors than the fmm would allow...and have spots left for floats or whatever else.
