Hello!
My name is Shane Puthuparambil. I am considering taking the plunge and becoming a reef keeper.... currently doing some research on biotope style reef tanks.
At the moment, I keep many freshwater fish, mainly from South America. I keep many neotropical dwarf cichlids from the genus Apistogramma. They are my main passion... but I wanted to try something new.
The restrictions I have are mainly in regards to the size of the tank and the cost. I have a 20 long, with some chunks of live rock and sand. I want to turn the tank into a biotope of sorts, I want it to replicate a tiny microcosm of a much larger reef system (from a specific region/location). I would like to showcase symbiosis in a multitude of forms. I feel like most can put together a beautiful reef, mixing corals from all over the planet, but in my eyes, nature is the most perfect thing out there.... so why not try and replicate it at the deepest level? Setting up a system that is a representation of a specific environment sounds like a cool challenge to take on... so I will go ahead and give it a try.
Unfortunately, I can find little info on reefs and replicating biotopes, so I was hoping that members on here would be able to point me in the right direction.
Anyways, excited to be a part of the community.
Shane
