In a lot of tank setups the water level in the sump is higher when the power is off. If skimmer comes on immediately when power is restored - it can overflow.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks. And I assume the "Detection Delay" is essentially an additional 5 minute delay if power goes out? So, five minutes before it turns on, then five minutes after it turns on? Am I misunderstanding that?
Does the “detection delay” then mean that it doesn’t go off again for five minutes after it goes off once? The instructions seem to imply that they’re two different types of delay.
Really glad to hear that. It seems really cool. I’m especially glad to have it since my HOB skimmer is known to randomly overflow, which would be a HUGE problem. Does it ever go off from foam? Or just actual skimmate?
Mine has never gone off from foam, has to be actual liquid. I like it because I have a hole drilled in the top of my skimmer with an air line that leads back to my CO2 scrubber, and if fluid backs up that line it ruins the media in there. Sometimes skimmers go crazy for reasons I don't anticipate, like when you glue corals, or sometimes when I change my filter floss, so its been handy for those random skimmer overflows.
I haven't tried it, but I don't see why that wouldn't work. Why would some waste go back to the tank, though?
Well i was thinking when water start rushing flow rate will so high that by the time water gets to the container the collection cup will be filling up and not catching up with that displacement.
