A R2R Spotlight: "Red People Eater (RPE)"

what bulbs are you running? they are under one ge 6500k and one blueplus
i almost think it is bleaching them with too much light, but they are growing well so i'm left not knowing if the clear skirts are good or bad.

My light setup from back to front.

Aquablue
Super Actinic
Aquasun
Blue Plus
Aquablue

I read somewhere that some SPS guys were testing out bulbs in 3900k - 4800k Kelvin area? I'm not sure if this is accurate or not but I'll see if I can dig up a link.

they are using 3000k bulbs to color up acros, since they normally do get some red spectrum lighting as they are so close to the surface.

i would run more blueplus bulbs than aquablue, as they get almost the same par yet look much better imo.

Here are mine!!

When i first got them

hey there,

here's mine,

notice the frag on the bottom, there is a purple ring right before the skirt. are these RPE or something else? bought the frag at a lfs for 5 bucks, polyps were so small could barely see the green mouth, figured I'd give them a go and see what color they turned out to be.

thanks

Has anyone's RPE come back from this? Mine look even paler, like a transparent, light pink. Is this happening to PPEs too? Mine came from MHs & are now under T5s.

I would shade them for awhile.....Depending on how old the MH bulbs were your T-5s might be to bright for them.....

Thanks Al :D

I've noticed since taking that pic that they have been getting a brighter purple ring right by the skirts, pretty cool..:)

a recent pic of some in my frag tank

Twon8,

Are those bleached? Or do they stay the tranluscent color? I had a colony of something like that before my tank crashed. I obtained my colony from a local reefer who got it from a friend in Hawaii (who was a diver). The interesting part about these bad boys is that they went from PCs -> 6500k MH -> 20k MH lighting and still remained to be translucent.

limestro,

If I remember correctly that opaque look to those RPEs occurred because twon switched or added T5 lights. The same thing happened to me, but they have since gained their color back.

PRPE's dont exist LOL. I thought I found some.........first pic. A little bit of light lovin and they were boring old average RPE's

These were brown with a green mouth until I moved them to my frag tank and they started getting more light.
