A real strange and odd algae

Hey reefers So about a week ago I noticed an odd algae growing on my sand bed and it was like it just piped up one night and all of my parameters are stable but my nitrates are barely present can someone help me identify this algae [emoji1374] thank you

I would guess it is a strain of cyanobacteria.

I still think it is cyanobacteria. That isn't uncommon in newer tanks. Especially ones with low nitrates.

Maybe cyano along with something else, maybe #chrysophytes....the texture is weird for cyano. (Weird for chrysophytes too though.)

@Got to love that reef: If green algae feels "hairy" and cyano feels "slimy" and chrysophytes feel "gloppy", which term would you say your algae most feels like?

It is like a mixture of cellophane and wet tissue paper if that makes sense

Appears to be bacteria that is turning black as it "smothers itself" consuming nutrients in the sand bed.

I guess I'd still have to say that description sounds more like cyano (or combo) than anything else.

Update it is turning lighter and dying [emoji847][emoji847]
