Hello from Switzerland Florida
Well we finally made the switch from FOWLER to corals. Lots of time doing FOWLER and loved it.
We decided to make the switch when I had the opportunity to purchase a nice set up at a price I could not resist. So here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted a good place to document growth and to share our joy in this venture...
It is a 150 with a 50 gallon sump. We are running three AI sols. I have taken a Reef Octopus 200 and modified it to fit in our sump (think 160 foot print). We run Charcoal, UV, and a triple sock filter. We do 10% water changes weekly and have a RODI system set up for top off's. I’m still carting buckets around for now, but will look into a ATO and AWC once I get into the RK side of things. For power heads in the tank we are running a small Tunzi and two Sicce 4's. Pretty good flow and movement in the water column.
Our goal is to have a mixed reef. We have put in a couple of pieces to get us going while we learn all the water compositions and how to utilize our systems. Some zoos, Palys, RBT, Rock Nem, a couple small frags of SPS (Efflo, Valida, ORA Spongeodes, Blue Acro and a piece of Jedi mind trick). For fish we have an old friend that we moved to this tank. Big Ronnie is our NASO he is about 10 years old now. New team members are a pair of semi picasos, and a fire fish. Oh I can't forget Bob he is our fighting conch that came over from our other tank as well. He is about three years old now.
This is not just me doing this, the great thing is it has become a family hobby. From the Boss (my wife) on down (two kids 11 and 6) we have all grown to love the new challenges we are learning about. We have been working hard to get our KH, Mag and Calc all in line. Once we do this we will start to look at more SPS corals and some blastos, welsos etc. For now we are staying put and trying to visualize how our new family master piece will look in the future. Slow and steady is our game....
