A sad day.

Man I hate to hear that. Been there, had a Purple Tang, looked completely healthy when bought, cause me to loose my designer clowns and others to die from ich. At least you'll be better prepared for the future. Good Luck Man!

Washing with antibacterial does NOT work I can tell you that DEFINITIVELY.

Let your hands dry completely and wash them before moving them in to the tank running fallow.

Let's break this down. The only way parasites can be transmitted from tank to tank on your hands is if a theront happened to be in a droplet of water. Rinsing your hands should wash away any theronts, but the gray area becomes:
  • What if a theront were to get inside the pores of your skin? If soap didn't make contact that deep, the theront could survive for a brief period of time just under the skin.
  • Could a theront attempt to attach to your skin the same way it does a fish's skin? I doubt that's ever been studied.

I stick my whole arm in frequently, what about arm hair? :D

I suspect it's my hose I use to pump water in and out of my tanks that is responsible. The hose doesn't dry entirely I suspect. The pump and the volume of water moving through I think that's my primary culprit

How likely do you think this is? I've been neglecting my dt tank to treat velvet in qt, and the glass is getting pretty bad. I had to put my whole arm in qt to remove a dead fish, and my dt needs my whole arm in it to clean. I was literally about to clean it now until I read this  My arms can't go 76 days fallow!

As long as you wash and dry your hands and arm completely you'll be fine.
