hi all
i thought i would do a tank journal/thread for my shallow sps reef tank mainly to share what i have done with others and to get feed back and advice for others who have been in this hobby longer then i have...so enjoy
so i'v had this system running for about 8 months now, before this i ran a 120 liter LPS system which i converted into the current tanks refugium.
the display tank is about 160 liter and the refugium about 120. the display is a shallow minimalist approach to a reef tank with a good number of well feed fish and a shallow sandbed.
for flow i'm running three mp10s which give me more flow then i use but gives me an amazing spread of flow, that while not truly random its as close as i can get to it.
the lighting is a LED nanobox reef quad. which while is more then enough for the tank i am in the process of upgrading it with a 4 build t5 retokit to get a better spread of light.
the filtration is rather simple i have a really big ugly refugium with sponges rock and macro to help with water quality i run activated carbon and a little bit of gfo for nuisance algae in the display and run a reef octopus hang on back skimmer which is more then enough to keep nitrates at 0.
water changes are done with NSW once a week,i boost the water with a little cal, alk and mag since the ocean where i am is a little lacking in these elements. the water change is more to do with replenishing trace elements then for nutrient removal since i have an issue with too little nutrients ( in the process of getting some potassium nitrate to bump the nitrate levels.
i dose cal alk and mag as well as potassium, i feed once to twice a day a mix of pellets and frozen foods. the corals get fed reef energy a and b from red sea as well as two little fishes zoo and phytoplankton (the powdered stuff) i try and feed every other nigh and somtimes i will feed every night for a week...as i said i have an issue with getting nutrients in the tank.
