Obviously, many of us r being shocked by our equipment, which is generally our first indication something is amiss n we can now hunt it down n repair it. This morning Im posting this so some will have a better understanding of repair ( n which case the recommendation is REPLACE) and to consider purchases that ARE going to b a prob. Granted 98% of us need no help n this dept (thought i was n that category), but apparently not. With my new CADE build I wanted to try a hybrid lighting set-up. Since we are in this for love n not money(that we dont have) Im always looking for a good deal. I thougt Id found one at my lfs n the form of a coral box t-5 light. I already had one, a coral box but a different design. This new one I didnt look at but hurried home n hooked up. Its metal w/ a push button on-off switch,( that isnt protected) and after 4 months shocks the s$#%^# out of me every morn. n night. My others are all set properly and r ran thru a switch board for even more protection,( i actually know a LOT about automotive and residential wireing. Being metal, not properly grounded, and a switch that is exposed to Saltwater(a perfect conductor). has gotten the hair on the back of my neck to raise 2x a day lol.Soon Ill replace it n lesson learned but as it slips my mind all day I guess Ive yet to learn it. Everyone else n the house will now only LOOK at my tank.,(one way to keep fingerprints off the glass). Point is look at what your buying n think how good of a deal is it really. And for you diy folks the ONLY product made to do any sort of wire repair in the feild I know of is LIQUID TAPE, and only use according to directions. Better yet just REPLACE any peice in question. Happy reefing all
