Just a quick question/discussion on what is an acceptable PH range for an SPS tank. I would not mind some input from everyone, especially @Randy Holmes-Farley...
I struggled with pH for the first few months of setting up my tank. I didn’t really mind during the cycle, due to there being no coral, but I knew I wanted to correct it eventually. The tank was started in September and was pretty much between 7.8 and 7.9.
At the end of October (23rd), with the addition of ARC purple helix/ pink fusion, I decided to run a line from outside to the skimmer in early November and it helped a bit, as you can see here:
I ran it like this for a while and still wasn’t happy with the range.. I had already purchased the gear to install a CO2 scrubber, and decided it was time to implement it in December, doing so helped a bit:
This small increase in average pH really fueled the growth of coralline, that coupled with an unexpected trochus spawning event ( taking my count of snails from 10 to almost 200) caused a huge increase in alk consumption. This is the point at which I began dosing. Keeping my alk right around 7, I have found that my pH is much higher as referenced below:
In the end, it seems my battle with low pH has turned into a questionably high pH.
What I would like to know is, is this range acceptable where it is now, or do I need to take measures to reduce it?
