Diatoms are a problem for me and my tank is well established. They come and are a real problem and then they go away after what seems an eternity. I'm not sure why they come, tho...I have a 110g tank with only 6 fish (FOWLR), about 1" ish sand bed. It will look great for a few weeks then "POOF" it's back. I'm thinking flow is a main contributor but I'm just not sure. We have a 150 reef tank and never have this problem. This is a great thread, btw! Thanks!

Diatoms are simply lack of export. Once you start exporting more, the diatoms (and dino's) are the first to go.

What about Green Turf. NO ONE can solve that one

Green turf is usually the next to go. Unless you have P in the rocks, in which case the turf will grow more into GHA for a few months.

Cyano and bubble algae are the last to go.

Green hair? I have had it in the past and used Chems to wipeout the po nuker and that usually kills it. Then I can just pull it off the rocks. But this stuff hardly comes off with a tooth brush. Any ideas?

Wow I have the first 6 algae's all in one tank. (florescent bulbs above this tank) Short spine Urchins help. But I'm working harder now with water changes plus. I will eventually get rid of the sand bottom as alot of my rock covers it anyway. Let's not forget old florescent bulbs will promote algae growth because their wavelength shifts toward the red spectrum. Replace between 6-12 months. If you can change to LED's ,this will help.

I had two different lights on my tank. The side with the stronger LED ( reef breeders 24") grew algae like crazy. The the other side was a cheaper marineland LED and the tank/rocks stayed almost algae free. I now have a T5 set up and it grows algae equally of both sides. haha

How to control brown macro algae?

Options are

Starve it via one of the po4 uptake options

Use fish or other grazers experimentally until one eats it

Spot kill it using chemicals. Brown macro algae is an obligate hitchhiker such that if it is killed off, it can't come back, independent of nutrient levels.

Definitely bryopsis.

Yea it is bryopsis. A good way to remove it would be using Kent's Tech M by dosing it slowly up to 1500. Monitor your levels as you do this.

Its about 4 week that this kind of algea is suffering and since then may corals do not seem happy and 2 of them are going to die.
Please help me in this problem

It grows every where glasses rocks sand ..
my blenny does not eat this.
And i think its sth different from diatom because some where its like hairy algae.
