We just set up a shallow IM 25 lagoon on part of our kitchen countertops. It's a great size for the space and allows 3 sides of visibility, which is great.

Based on the location, it's somewhat under an existing 60W 5000k LED bulb in our kitchen pendants. Due to this, the tank is actually very well lit, although not in the typical color spectrum of aquariums of course.

As this will be an invert only tank without corals, is an additional light fixture even necessary? We have a Mars Aqua I was planning to install, but at this point it would be purely for color balancing, as the tank is adequately lit and visible.

On the other side of things, does an overhead 60W bulb cause any ill-effects like additional algae production or otherwise? Ideally we wouldn't remove the pendant as it provides a good bit of light to the kitchen.

Thanks!

Nah, it should be fine. There can be a bit of algae produced, but then again, that'll probably be good for inverts (to dine on).
