If it wasn't for the 180 gallon reef tank in the waiting room of my dentist's office, I would probably be like many others who dread the dentist.

He likes to talk about his aquarium, so when I come in for a visit, he falls behind as we like to talk shop.

Today, he pointed out this red stuff growing on the substrate. He wasn't sure what it was, and neither was I.

It is some sort of algae, red in color and oddly enough, easy to remove as I was able to roll it up like a mat and lift it out of the tank.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I've never seen it in any of my tanks.

Okay... thanks!

Yeah, my tank gets it every Spring, I could leave it and it will go away on it's own but that takes weeks, I just do a round of Chemiclean and it's gone in a few days.
