I was watching a youtube video where an LFS was describing their system and they started showing off their EuroReef Skimmer. I got very excited. So silly what makes humans happy sometimes. I was watching it alone, but found my self saying out loud, "cool, I have one too." Technically the one I am using now was made by reef dynamics after they started back up from Euro Reef, but it's the same thing really. When Euro Reef skimmers first came out I couldn't afford one so I bought an ASM instead.

All this to say I just kinda wanted to see who else has a Euro Reef or Reef Dynamics skimmer still in service? What are you planning on doing if it ever dies? Do you love yours as much as I do? Mine is a true work horse, best piece of equipment I have ever owned. It prob helps that it is driven by 2 large Eheim pumps. ;)

So this got me thinking that Euro Reef was really on the cutting edge of needle wheel technology, now look at the skimmer market. There are sexy shaped, quiet needle wheels galore. Dang, then I got nostalgic about air stone skimmers, nah - not really, never liked sanding or buying replacement wood blocks. These devices to simply make bubble have come a long way.

When I started in the hobby, Tunze was about the only game in town. Built a DiY airstone-driven skimmer but it never worked right. Bought the initial incarnation of the MTC HSA1000 in the early 90's and it was great .... until I broke it. Now I use their PowerePro skimmer - no plans to break that one.

I have a ReefDynamics IS-80 skimmer that I am using on my system build at the moment. My tank is only around 1 month old and I just came out of cycling. I have a Jecod DCT-4000 attached to mine. Do you get excessive amounts of air that flows out from the bottom? I agree, that I have just started to fine tune mine, but from what I heard, especially with a new pump, that it is a work horse.

We should start a EuroReef/ReefDynamics Thread haha especially for scrap parts in case anything breaks!

Mine does let some bubbles out with the export water that is released but it's from the tube. Mine is pretty big it's a INS300, has 10" collection cup and 2 big Ehiem feed pumps.

Good idea on parts group.

I'm currently running a reef dynamics ins 135. I just took down my Euroreef INS 180 as I need a new pump. The new 135 was $229 shipped to my house brand new. Totally worth it, the thing rocks. Now I have a extra skimmer if mine dies. I will also be retro fitting a pump to my 180, or buying the ehiem upgrade for the crazy $300 bucks. I started with a ASM G4 as I could not afford a Euroreef. I don't see whey we could not fit a DC controllable skimmer pump to these. I do know the siccee PSK pumps do work. These skimmers Rock.

I have a life reef skimmer that I purchased back in 2000. Still running strong. Prior to that I used an ETSS. It was a bit finicky with sump water height so I later modified it to a becket style skimmer. That worked well but later picked up the life reef, over sized it so I could continue to use it, and here we are 17 years later. Still runs perfectly fine.
