Hi All! We recently moved from the city to the country and are now on well water. I would like thorough testing done of our existing water and see what we need to do to clean it up for drinking use and to help my RO/DI filters last a bit longer. What exactly (job title) do I need to search for when looking to hire someone to examine our water? I'm looking to make it better than average for the sake of my reefs (and humans). We had the general inspection done and the water cleared for human consumption, but for now we are drinking bottled water. I burned through my filters in no time making RO/DI water. I suspect something in our water is at the very least pulling up copper because the white sinks, tubs, showers all stain blue/green within a week of a good cleaning.

I would call and ask a well installation company to see if they can recommend someone to test the water. Someone who specializes in water purification/softened such as Culligan (so?) may do testing also.

I believe well water can have high co2 (I believe co2 is correct, may try searching well water and di resin). This will cause you to go through DI resin fast.

If it is high in CO2, you can make a simple tank to allow the co2 to dissipate and then run it through the di resin.

Also, wells can have lower water pressure and RODIs are not efficient when pressure is below 45psi. You may need a booster pump.

Maybe I'm confused, but it doesn't sound like you are looking for someone to do more testing. You are looking for someone to improve the quality of your well water at this point, right?

Yes, more testing because I want to know what I'm dealing with and then suggestions on how to go about improving the well water and possibly the pressure.

Here is a thread about a CO2 scrubber for well water (and searching CO2 Scrubber may yet some answers in case that is the issue)...

Just thinking so this may not apply....but If you think the copper staining is from the plumbing in the house, maybe you could connect the RODI unit right after the well pressure tank so you are not using water from the pipes.

I would see if Culligan serves your area. They do free testing and can offer whole home solutions
