Hey everyone, I recently acquired a kessil a80 about a month ago and upgraded from the 14 biocube factory compact fluorescents. A lot of my montiporas and one acro near the top of my tank have bleached. The light is about 5"above the tank and was wondering if anyone had % recommendations for % of blue to white and % intensity maybe amount of time you have lights on? I moved bleaching corals lower, but would still love some input. I've also had a couple astreas and hermits die... Not sure if related.

My known levels are:
Nitrates 10 (just added denitrate media yesterday)
Phosphates 0.1
KH 7.5
Alkalinity 480
Salinity 1.025
Magnesium 1440
Temp 76

I've been running lights at 90% intensity and 60% white for about 8 hrs a day

Hey Elmo. I'm not exactly a reef expert yet, but I have the Kessil A360s on my tanks. I think you need to be more concerned with the intensity than the spectrum. Unlike a lot of other LEDs, the Kessils don't give you a lot of spectrum options, and anything within the spectrum range they do allow is generally pretty good for growing corals. Just adjust it to what looks good. I like to start off at the bluest end of the range, and increase whiteness from there until I get a blend that looks nice. The blue is mainly what benefits the corals. When you increase the whiteness, you are still getting that blue spectrum the corals want; you are just adding some additional spectrum that may not be as useful to the corals, but makes things look nicer to your eyes.

In terms of intensity, its probably quite a big change for your corals going from PC to LED. I would dial the intensity way down, and gradually increase it over time to give your corals time to adjust.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice!

Kinda odd to come across this cause I’ve been looking at a lot of other A80 threads and the consensus is that I got is that the A80 wouldn’t be strong enough to bleach sps in around 10g tanks app. 6in off the water but who knows
