I bought an abalone in May and thought it had died. I recently found it in the back behind a rock. I NEVER see it leave it's 4x6" space. Presumably it comes out at night? But if so, it goes back to the EXACT same spot every day.
As far as requirements? I don't know - normal ones? LOL! Any specific requirement you are wondering about?
Bumping as I just picked one up...and that page simply advises "avoid". I'm planning to put mine in a tank with a catalina goby with a constant temperature of 20-21C. Has anyone had long-term success with these?
I ended up putting mine in my IM40, and I'll likely move it into my RSM250 before the year is out. It's great at removing coralline (if that's what you want), and looks like the love child of an ocarina and the alien spaceship seen at the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. They're truly unusual.
There are both tropical and temperate abalones. I had tropical ones as a hitchhiker and they bred like crazy and were easy to keep. Got them back when live rock was live rock!
