Just wondering as this topic is not handled very often, do you use a heater........1........2........or more?
What kind of heater do you use and why?
Do you use it stand alone or hooked up through a controller?
Where do you have your heater located, sump.......tank........overflow?

Here in SE TX we not having to use our heater very often, we have more needs for a chiller (maybe a next topic) here during our hot summer months.

i just have 1 for now, but i live in san diego where its not too cold. i have a Ehiem Jager trutemp, in the sump. i dont have a controller yet, but plan to in the future.

In the winter..I use 3... Since my tank is in my basement which stays cooler...
1 in my tank and 2 in my sump...1 is in the first incoming chamber and the other is in my pump chamber...
I keep my tank cooler in the winter either way at 75/76
And I don't have a need in the summer so I pull the one out of the DT (cobalt neotherm) and one out of the first sump chamber...so just incase it gets really cold, lol my jäger is still in there set on 75...but the tank usually runs at 78 in the summer without anything...(probably because I keep my house at 70,lol)

I use two heater for my 120g. One could do the job alone but I have another to take the load off of one and for a back up. They both come one at 77.5 and go off at 78. They are controlled via an apex controller. They are working hard this time of year for me. :)

Always use two or three underwattage heaters so if one sticks on, it wont fry your livestock.

I'm using a single 300W Finnex titanium heater controlled by an Apex on my 120. Turns on at 77.5 and off at 78. It sits in my sump after the skimmer and before the return pump. The heater doesn't have a controller built in so the Apex does all the heavy lifting. For cooling, I have a fan tray sitting over the sump that turns on at 78.5 and off at 78.

I don't use any.
Living in South Florida, even when it get's cold here it is never cold enough for the heater to kick in.
It's 57° today but the house and tank are at 77°.
A chiller is better for me.

I'm using a single Finnex titanium heater controlled by an Apex, but plan on replacing it with two smaller heaters in the near future. The heater is located in the sump.
I use this brand based on reliability and like the fact that it is not made out of glass.

According to my Apex graph, it kicks on once an hour for about ten minutes this time of year, using an average of 4 AMPs.

I use two on my 60, both in the sump controlled by a Coralvue Heater Temperature Controller

I live in Wyoming and run two Jager 300's in my open top125. It makes it easier on both heaters and provides some redundancy. I also keep a backup in case one goes down. I used to live in South Carolina and had a heater, but it hardly ever had to run. I've found that consistency is fast more important than the actual temperature within reason.
