When I first saw this it took a lot of convincing to me that this was not a carribean blue tang, acanthurus coeruleus with aberrant coloration but upon further examination I see I am wrong!
Yes the carribean blue has blue eyes but hypermelanistic traits, hard to say. The general shape of the fish, tail shape (hard to discern) and electric blue anal fin markings led me to this. To make things complicated, they have a similar shape at that age, they’re both acanthurus, and have the electric blue outlining on the anal fin— but more so on the carribean.
Anyway, your tang nerd was wrong. Cool fish!
