Having some cyano issues, some red and some that looks the same but is green. So I got some chemiclean and an air pump. I plan to just follow the directions but have two questions.
1 it says to remove carbon, but I don't run carbon. I do run GFO, should I remove it?
2 where in a bc14 would be the best place to put the airstone? Should I even use the stone ou just use the tube?

Thanks.

Remove all compounds and stop skimmer if you haves one. Aerate well and put the airstone where it stirs up the surface water best, if you have a power head aim it at the surface to create turbulence as much as possible. Do not use more than recommended under any circumstance and remember that your tank does not contain the amount of water that it states due to displacement by rocks and sand etc ... so estimate what it may contain and use that as a guideline for how much ChemiClean to use. FWIW

Thanks, wasn't sure about the GFO, they ought to print that on the box. I only used one scoop, the tank has right at ten gallons, give or take a quart or so. I put the air stone in chamber one with the heater, and keep my return aimed at the surface.

I agree, their label is a bit meager in details :- ) but I have spoken to them on the phone about it when another Hobbyist asked for some more details and since I had not used it myself I decided that calling them was the best way to get all the info. And so yes all the compounds have to be removed and good aeration put in place like I suggested with the power head aimed at the surface and you can run your skimmer if you want but at a very low level so that all it does is make bubbles but so no foam comes out of it. Not easy to do but if is another option for more aeration. If you have an HOB filter you could lower the water level in the tank so that the water coming back from the HOB splashes onto the top of the water in the tank as that will create aeration as well. And of course you could add an airstone and bubble air through the water as well in addition to all of that.

The key though is not to use more than what is recommended for the "actual" amount of water in your tank and that is not what your tank is rated at because of the rock and sand that are displacing water and also because the water content rating is based on a tank that is full to the brim, which of course ours never are as we keep the level an inch or more from the top.

Hope this helps you along and pls do keep us posted.
