So if a fish was QT in a tank with live rock because it had ich then the live rock was given/sold to someone would the ich stay on the rock then infect the fish ?

Very possible considering the ich cycle .
It also will hold copper if they used it to treat fish.

im gonna set my QT up completly bare sept for maybe some false stuff just to give the fish something...

im finally starting ot get ahead on my ick problem... but of course its just gone away the past few days and could pop back at any time so buh

why would there be live rock in a QT, if you feel insecure about using it, just leave the rock in f/w, I wouldnt put that rock in a reef tank until is cleaned well.

This could happen if there are still cyst of ich that have not hatched. The normal life cycle of ich is 6 weeks. Some say you need to have 12 weeks to be safe.

i thought i read that ich has a life cycle and after so many days without fish as a host the parasite dies. so if you left the QT tank without fish there should be no ich.

i use live rock in my QT for a couple of reasons:

so new fish have cover and hopefully less stress to acclimate quicker

fish that may not be eating prepared foods have a chance to graze on algae

biological filtration
