My pH ranges from 7.8 at night to 8.2 during the day. Even 8.3 if I open the windows.
If I take the air out of the skimmer (with a tube) to an area outside the dining room, my pH is 7.9 at night and 8 during the day.
My question is, what do I do? I leave the skimmer and ventilate the room or put the tube to an external outlet from the skimmer
thanks

I must tell you the best mod I ever did to my system is drilling threw the glass on my basement window to install a bulkhead threw it for 1 1/2 inch pvc to plumb my skimmer air intake threw it. I honestly gained an average of .2-.3 ph over night and now from 7.7-8.0 sit in the 8.1-8.23 range always. My set up is very messy but I’ll include a pic

Obviously not everyone has the option to do this or would want to but hands down for me the best thing I ever did

Also I got to this conclusion the same way As you did by opening the windows and getting a .2-.3 raise in ph. Only issue I had with that was wife kept complaining she to cold cause it was winter at the time.

Honestly, your PH is fine where it is. 7.8 to 8.2 is perfectly acceptable, and well within reef parameters.

With that said, if you want to chase that magical 8.3 dragon, then just as a simple method, run an airline from the intake of your skimmer to the outside.

And again, we can all thank @Bulk Reef Supply for all the PH chasing threads since they put out the video about 8.3 being the magical number for coral growth.

Sorry @Bulk Reef Supply but it is your video. I know you explain to people not to chase that dragon, but it seems everyone glossed over that part.

And yes I will continue to tag you guys in every one of these posts, just to prove what your videos do, and how they effect this community.

Just out of curiousity, How long after opening a window does one generally see the increase in PH? Minutes, hours?

Usually within a few hours. have to add the fresh O2, and get it mixed in to drive out the Co2 first. Airline mod on my skimmer I didn't notice the not so drastic swing for like 2 days.

Thanks.. Noticed my PH trending downward last 10 days (seneye) and after confirming with a red sea kit started trying to explain it. Nothing of alarming level to warrant an emergency, but always want an answer to a trend. Seeing this post thought I could get an idea how soon after opening the 'window test' i'd see a result.

Unfortunately my partner tends to close the window shortly after I open it cause it's 'cold' :D Will ask her to suffer for a few hours for the sake of science!!

ive been haveing that same problem.i ran a huse outside and have used a product called p.h. up.it works but you want to raise your p.h. very slowly, like over the corse of a couple weeks.water changed often and maybe swithh salt may help,it has me.good luck n youll get there just go slow

You realize with that product your also increasing your alkalinity? PH buffers add a small amount og alkalinity for a small, temporary increase to PH. Then you'll add more when the PH lower, rasing the ALK again. Next we'll see a post about sky high alkalinity readings.

yep and cal. sky high as well. i stoped useing the product about 3 weeks ago and did not mean to give bad advice.thank you for the correction as noone ever told me that bit of critical info.question ,what do you recomend as we r both haveing that problem n im still struggling with it some.i went from a low of 7.13 to now ,a month later ,of 8.01 and thats on a calibrated digital p,h. meter.thank you n advance for any help you can offer

I would question the 7.1 reading as thats nearly neutral, and pretty impossible with aragonite as rock and sand. At that low of a PH you'll start to disolve the aragonite which will bring the PH back up.

8.01 is perfectly acceptable, heck even 7.8 is too. it's not something I personally would even worry about.

Until I got my apex several years ago, I couldn't even tell you what my PH was, as it was one of those parameters no one even really cared about.

thank you. i bought the digital reader as i couldnt believe the low numbers and what your saying about the argonite would explain argonite sandbed going from 3 inches to 1.5 inches.thanks again.

So I forget the tube to the outside and let it change the pH between 7.8 and 8.2? I thought that the ideal thing was to have it always stable 8.2 both day and night.
