My drain has a 1” abs bulkhead and I have 1” pvc pipe going from the bulkhead to the sump. What do I use to glue this together?

I should have searched first...looks like some people use regular pvc cement and some use transition cement. Home Depot has this. Looks like this is what I need?

I have no experience with that particular glue but it looks like its exactly whats its made for.

It being a drain there really isn't any pressure there.

I’m scared I (or the 2 year old) will knock the pipe and it will fall out. It’s not a snug enough fit for me to feel comfortable not gluing it.

I’ve used a medium bodied PVC glue for decades. Never had a pipe fall out of a bulkhead yet.

I have used regular PVC glue for this same type of joint in the past, but this thread made me wonder...

Because this is a drain line with no pressure, if someone wanted to secure the pieces together (more than just snug fit) and still have the ability to take them apart in the future, would standard aquarium safe silicone work for this application? Is there another comparable (or better option)?

;Sorry Apologies in advance, if anyone considers this related question to be hijacking the thread. ;Sorry

Not at all highjacking. I’m open to all ideas. This is my first plumbing job so guaranteed I will want to change it later. Maybe silicone would be better since it’s not so permanent?

Should the Pvc fit pretty snug into the bulkhead? Snug like pvc to pvc? I didn’t glue the union...it was very hard to get the union ends on the pvc so I’m pretty sure they aren’t going anywhere.

Whether you solvent weld or friction fit slip connections depends upon the specific application. It is not accurate to say drains are not under any pressure; just that they are under less pressure than the return. I would not personally rely on friction fitted pipes, even if they don’t mechanically separate, they are likely to drip. Silicone isn’t intended for an application like this - plus you have to give it plenty of time to cure.

Ok, I’ll be getting some of that transition glue today. Thanks for all the info!!
