getting mixed reviews on the pump.. they have a a400 and a400 ipu do they have the same head pressure i purchased the a400 thinking it was the a400 ipu the head pressure says only 30 ft when the ipu says 45 ft ... i have around a 30 ft run dont know if this will cut the distance I need

The IPU's typically have a higher head height across all models and a higher price tag to go along with that, but let's back track a little bit here. You say you have a 30ft run of plumbing? Is this 30ft straight up?

What volume of flow are you hoping to achieve? Realistically you're probably looking at 10-15 FT of TDH (Total Dynamic Head height).

Please don't mind my drawing lol .. I have a 240 gallon tank

I actually already purchased the abyzz a400 what just curious if I should spend the extra 250 and get the ipu for the extra head pressure value

I wouldn't. The A400 you have now will be more than sufficient. Currently if you're return pipe is sized correctly you're looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 3200 GPH coming out of your outlet running the pump at 100%

3 1.5 over flow lines but return lines I am not sure of bulk head size but can fit a 3/4 threaded male adapter inside should I run 3/4 how can I make it into a 1.5 return for maximum flow

So your drain lines are 1.5" and your main return line back from the sump is 3/4"?

I did not run the pluming yet but the bulk heads on the dt I can screw in 3/4

3/4" is pretty restrictive what type of tank is it? Do you have any pictures? Is it one return or dual 3/4"?

Its from glass cages I just looked it up the have one on each end 2 in total 3/4 bulk head

Okay, so I would run a 1.5" return from the sump to the tank itself then split it with a 1.5" to 2 3/4" reducing T and run each 3/4" line to the returns. In a perfect world the returns would be 1" but 3/4" will work. With this setup you will be looking at roughly 18ft of total dynamic head so if you were aiming for 10 times turnover in your sump you will have to dial the A400 back a bit. :)

Yea that would be my only option but the abyzz pump i have will work fine than ? No reason to change it ?

As long as you set your plumbing up appropriately theres no reason to change it atall, you could probably downsize to the A200 if you really wanted to but seeing as you already have the A400 might as well keep it and maybe run a couple reactors off of it as well :)

Yes also my plan to run a manifold off of it thanks so much for the advise much appreciated

Any time! Best of luck on your build! I notice you're pretty new around here so welcome to R2R :)

The only thing I ask in return is you start a build thread so I can see pictures of that A400 in action ;Drool;Drool;Drool
