I currently have two reeflo hammerhead pumps. One I use on my water changing station just because I wanted a backup pump in case something went wrong on the primary tank pump. I love them. yes, they have a slight hum to them, but if you're room is sound proofed and / or you have a styrofoam matt underthem they're not bad. I have had both of my pumps in use for going on 4 years. I've never had any issues with seals failing. I had the same pump pushing from the basement. Vertical push around 15 feet from mid level basement to the top of my 220. I had an additional 30-40 foot horizontal run to get from the basement furnace room to the upstairs area where the tank was. It was all 1.5 inch plumbing. I had no issues with flow with that pump. It was a work horse!
I have 3 items plumbed off my pump now through a manifold. I have my ATS scrubber, my Cannister filter converted to denitrate reactor. And then a hose to my floor drain, and a pressure relief off shoot if I need to relieve pressure from the pump. With all those connections plus the 6-7 foot rise to my display tank, with 10 feet of horizontal run. I still dial back the pump output by 25% and have plenty of flow to the display.
Plus, in the directions it says dialing back the output flow puts back pressure on the pump, reducing the use of electricity by as much as 100 watts per hour, and it also extends the life of the pump and the seals. I don't understand the mechanics of why. But after redoing my plumbing this year I closed the output valve by 20-25% and so far, it's working great and still pushing the flow I need to everything!
For the price the pumps are great. Plus, their customer service is really good if you have any questions.
