AC vs DC pumps? Quiet pump needed, something equal to a Mag 12

The Jebao is the same as most of the other dc pumps it is a waveline..

I just placed my order for the DC-12000 from Fish-Street.com. With it coming from China and the whole custom's thing, do you end up paying anything else in taxes? Or is the cost only what it took for the item plus shipping?

I ended up using a Reef Octopus Diablo DC-10500 for return pump, DC-5500 with my LifeReef skimmer and a DC-3500 for my Refugium. All are connected to my Apex. They work very well. Love the soft startup and are very quiet.

I have a waveline DC-10000 that is over a year old (version 1). Pump is great, but just had to order a new power supply. The power supply failure seems to be the weak link with these pumps. I also have a waveline DC-10000 that runs my skimmer (version 2). No issues with that pump. I had that one right at one year.

Well my LFS stopped carrying the Jebaos because I think he said he had them all returned except two..
I have had two rlss dc pumps fail now..
My tunze pump has been running for years..
Anyway on my new tank build I picked up another RLSS dc pump because how quiet they are and it was going in the living room.. I now have changed it out for the new Reef octopus DC pumps.. RO are supposed to have changed a few things to fix the problems with reliability..
Reef octopus was originally using the same as the waveline but now have switched them out for the newer style dc pump...
Honestly Rlss has been good and replaced my pumps but I jumped on the DC bandwagon early and cant risk my whole tank over a pump... So until they change them I wont risk it. .

I started with smallest Jebao DC pump for 60g tank. Failed in 7 hours and sent back.
After I consulted with distributor and went for DC3000 instead - replaced on after 2 days due to high pitch noise.
3rd was sent back as well as you cannot isolate high frequency noise as efficient as usual from AC pump running 50/60Hz only.
Seller tested and said it is "working as intended" but it cannot be just me to hear it working. Waiting for my refund now.
Standard soundproofing methods do not work and 400Hz noise from running at 80% power pump is very noticeable at nights.
IMHO, their ceramic shaft and impeller being the same thing and spinning in the ceramic bearings is really pure design decision.

I ran DC6000. Love the quiet operation. I have had mine for over a year. Love it and will buy more in the future. The only way i can tell its on is by raising the pipe out of the water to see water comming out. It runs cheaper and quieter than any AC pump. Also, Im in the Industrial Maintenance world and we never had much trouble with DC motors, nor AC motors. So I say they go hand in hand.

I have a RO Diablo 10500, which performs well, but tends to be louder (relatively) at higher speeds. I've really wanted to try one of the Red Dragon 3 80W pumps, and if I were doing it again, I would have gone that direction (instead of keeping an extra 10500 around just in case).

I am, which is probably why I think it's loud.
I'm using the DC12000 and like it a lot. 6 months in I opened it to clean the impeller, it had build up in it. Besides that, it's a great pump with the controller and slow start up. I got a second one as a back up but don't think I'll need it.
