OK, guys and gals. I picked this piece up earlier today at Pet Supplies Plus (a chain store) of all places. I was in such disbelief to see this thing in their store that I bought it on the spot. Its a green and red LPS. I'm not sure if its a blasto, acan, or what . . . but I figured ya'll would be knowledgable enough to help me out. Whats the difference betwee blastos, acan, micros, etc. . . . ?

It was $25. They've really turned the salt water section of that store around. They rebuilt the entire salt water section over the summer and they're just now starting to stock fish (including some nice looking Banggai Cardinals, and a Lunare Wrasse). I hope they can keep the tanks looking nice.

The corals still look neglected and they're not getting enough light, but . . . with some imagination you can tell what color a coral is supposed to be. They even had some nice looking zoas (possible people eaters since they had the prominent green mouth) and blue ricordea!

So again, how can I tell the difference between a favia, acan, blasto, etc . . . they all look the same to me.

i dont' have pics of all 3...but once you've seen a bunch and compare the pics of them. its pretty easy to tell.

especially since blasto's are VERY fluffy....and usually have a green centered mouth like some zoas, but they are an LPS since they have a skeleton.

favia's aren't as fluffy as acans.......but both have tentacles that come out around the center in a circle.

but telling the difference b/w a acan and a micro is a bit more difficult just by looking at the picture. obviously some micros are really small compared to acans.
