Hi! My Acans have been bleaching and receding for a couple of days now. They have been in the same spot since I got them and it have been looking full and growing heads until now.
The only changes I have made is I have added UV and GAC reactor when battling dinos. I have also used Fluconazole once to remove Bryopsis and GHA. Both the dinos and algae are gone but now my Acans are looking sad.
Also my Favia have been closed up and looking bleached, but all my other corals are looking great with polyps out and with great color, I have some Montis, Acros, Euphyllias, Zoas, Stylos, Birdsnest, Caulastrea and none are showing signs of distress.
Any tips or ideas on why my Acans and Favia suddenly decided to wither?
Parameters:
Sg: 1,026
Alk: 7,7
Mg: 1260
Ca: 400
No3: 10 ppm
Po4: undetectable with salifert

Thanks for any tips or advice!

Here is a fts, I know the glass is dirty but I plan on bigger maintenance tomorrow!

It may be related to all the algae/Dino treatment and recent fluctuations in nutrients. Can you up your phosphates a tad and see if that helps?

Yeah I guess that is the most likely reason. I thought my Acros and Montis would be more sensetive then Acans and Favias with regards to nutrient swings but I guess different swings affect different corals.
Raising my No3 and Po4 have been a ongoing struggle since my dinos showed up so I am working on it. :)

You’re right, I would assume the sps would show stress first too. I’m pretty new at coral so I could be off. Someone else may have better suggestions. I’m working on the opposite, high phosphate and near zero nitrates.

I would pull the reactor.

My experience with acans is that they are much harder to keep than SPS without a doubt. The slightest change and they shrivel up and sometimes die. I stopped keeping them even though I love them!

Why are you struggling with raising nutrients when having dinos? Are you finding they are being sucked out of the water? The reason I ask is ever since I hooked up a frag system to my existing tank I have been seeing dinos and my nutrients are high (po4 0.08 and 25 no3).

Acan or Micromussa are like any other LPS.

1. Do not over illuminate. Mod to lower lighting.
2. Do not over polish, strip the water. Low nutrients may become an issue. Feed them.
3. Maintain a stable alk and ca.

Fluconazole probably put the LPS over the edge.

Edit: Nice tank BTW.
