If you frag it there is a high chance that the coral will be infected where the flesh of the coral is open. Your aquarium is full of bacteria and pathogens including the bacteria that is currently killing your coral. Honestly I would put it in peroxide to initially stop the infection. Get some enthromyicin from your LFS and mix half a packet into a Tupperware with the coral in it. Let it sit for two hours and put it back into your tank. Treat it for a week and there is a good chance it will make it. Then I would remove the empty skeleton as you see fit.
